How to ask your cross-functional team to set and chase more ambitious growth targets.

Fintech Startup Quarterly Goal Setting Workshop (A Jarther+ Case Study)

“The tools you've given us, as well as the overall facilitation of the process, were all really valuable, and we feel we have progressed along way up the maturity curve!”

Here’s the challenge:

A FinTech enjoying rapid early growth but were concerned about maintaining pace without a more considered growth strategy. OKR sessions in the past resulted in their teams either not being aspirational or becoming demoralised when they didn’t achieve 100%. The leadership realised they needed help aligning and motivating their teams for more ambitious business goals.

Here’s our response:

Jarther+ team provided a custom online workspace which allowed each team leader to guide a cross-functional team to generate new and unique ideas. It also allowed the cross-functional teams to work asynchronously, saving time.

In phase 2, the Jarther+ team used a proprietary framework, to reinforce the importance of setting stretch targets to shift the mindset of the group.  The cross-functional teams were more easily able to develop ideas to realistically extend these targets further.

The workshop culminated in a prioritisation exercise to align the wider business around these new, more ambitious priorities for the upcoming quarter.

More importantly, here are the impacts:

Jarther’s (Founder & Principal) 20-plus years’ expertise in the tech space, meant he was able to push the group in a way that generated ambition while remaining grounded in reality. Team leaders actively participated in the exercises, which helped achieve individual buy-in and cross-functional alignment.

The combination of virtual prep and in-person workshopping also meant that the business was able to keep momentum and drastically reduce the time they had expected to need for this sort of exercise.  The leadership team reported this workshop helped to increase their engagement, understanding and alignment as a business.
